Our History

MILE was founded in 2019 by John Nyangulu to develop the capacity of leaders for a prosperous future. John was inspired by the work of his mentor, Evans Exhaud, the founder and current Executive Director of Liberty Sparks. Evans helped John to refine his idea and later introduced him to the Late Linda Whetstone. To help him realize his dream, Linda funded MILE’s registration and introduced John to Atlas Network’s team for mentorship.

MILE was registered on 7th September, 2021 as a 501 (C) 3 academic charity.   The institute is named after John’s father, Late Manson Nyangulu, to honour his name and memories. MILE is headquartered in Mzimba District, the Northern part of Malawi. Today, MILE is becoming a trusted resource for students, young people, mid-career professionals and the general public on individual liberty, personal responsibility and economic freedom in Malawi.

OUR BACKGROUND

Economics is the most powerful tool for positive and sustainable socio-economic progress because the economic way of thinking uncovers various hidden truths about how the world works. But modern mainstream economics have, in several ways, turned its back on the power of economic reasoning by adopting economic paradigms that have ruined economies for centuries.

This predisposition has had adverse effects on developing economies of the world like Malawi where paternalistic economic policies have compromised national prosperity by interfering with the fundamental principles of human rights and democracy. MILE was established to
educate and re-orient the general public about the ideas of freedom and the classical-liberal economic traditions by combining advanced economic research with accessible media outreach and academic programming.
